Base metal and weld metal thickness

Any difference between base metal thickness and weld metal thickness qualification?

Base metal (T): the metal or alloy that is welded, brazed or cut.
Weld metal (t): metal in fusion weld consisting of that portion of the base metal and filler metal melted during welding.
